A 5K event at Crana College has been postponed this week in light of the tragic death of a cherished student, Matt Sibanda.

Eighteen-year-old Matt Sibanda, who was preparing to sit his Leaving Certificate exams, lost his life at sea along with his friend, Emmanuel Familola. Emmanuel, aged 16, was a pupil of Scoil Mhuire Buncrana.

In light of the devastating events, Crana College has announced that the 5K race scheduled for Thursday, 15th May has been postponed.

A notice from the school said: “We appreciate your kindness and understanding as our school community grieves this immense loss. A new date for the 5K will be announced in due course, and all existing entries will remain valid.

“Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with Matt’s family, friends, and all who knew him.”

Critical Incident Plans are in place at Crana College and Scoil Mhuire this week to support students affected by the tragedy.
