He was on duty with the Roads Policing Unit, Dublin Castle, when he was struck by a motorcycle while carrying out a speeding checkpoint. The motorcyclist remains in a critical condition in Beaumont Hospital.

Gda Flatley is remembered today as a dedicated, committed and valued Garda.

The 49-year-old had more than 26 years of dedicated service to An Garda Síochána.

Members of the public who wish to express their condolences to the family of Garda Kevin Flatley are welcome to sign the Book of Condolence at Letterkenny Garda Station.
