The sun was shining on Friday afternoon as players took to the first tee box for the Deele College Golf Classic at Ballybofey and Stranorlar Golf Club.
The Classic was organised by Transition Year student, Conor Callaghan, as part of his TY Mini-Company and what a success it was. A total of 51 teams took part in the four-ball scramble.

The event was won by Kevin Roach, Chris Nee, Tony Duffy and PJ Nee who won on a Break-of-Tie on 59 points. They narrowly defeated Father Ciaran Harkin, Oisin Harkin, Paul Carr and recently retired Paddy Flood who has certainly put his retirement to good use. Jason Quigley, Michael Molloy, Ronan McNamee and Sean Foley took 3rd place on 57 points.
Runners up: Father Ciaran Harkin, Oisin Harkin, Paul Carr and recently retired Paddy Flood.
In the Juvenile section, Bradley Boyle, Dean Doherty, Ciaran Conaghan and Ruairi Conaghan took first place with 53 points. In second place was the Deele College team of Harry McGroarty, James White, Sean Dolan and Aaron McLaughlin who came back with 50 points.

Longest Drive was won by Ronan McAteer and Orla Gallagher, while the closest to the pin was won by James Friel on the 2nd, Damien Bradley on the 8th, Sean Barrett on the 14th and Chris Nee on the 17th.
It was a fantastic occasion and great credit must go to Conor for organising such a brilliant event that was supported by everyone associated with the school. Conor had great help from his teacher, Miss Orla Gallagher and his parents, Paul and Karen Callaghan, who put in a huge effort to make the day such a success.

School principal, Mr Joe Boyle paid credit to the organising committee and said that it was a great day for the school.
“I want to thank Conor for putting together such a brilliant event that ran so smoothly from seven in the morning until ten at night. Conor was there overseeing the whole thing and it went really well. I would also like to thank Miss Orla Gallagher who did Trojan work in relation to the competition and to Conor’s mum and dad, Karen and Paul for their hard work and dedication in bringing this idea to fruition.
“I would also like to thank all the sponsors of the tees and the greens and all those that sponsored prizes for the event. We could not have done this without the support of our local businesses and we would encourage everyone associated with Deele College to ensure to support these businesses when they can. The money raised will go towards our ever expanding extra-curricular activities in the school and will benefit all our student population over the next year.”
