The opening meeting of the season got underway on Sunday last at Carndonagh on a glorious afternoon for Racing and it was a day to remember for Ballyare jockey Ben Lecky, nephew of the former multiple champion jockey Paul Lecky.

Ben gave Tommy K a very patient ride from mid division in the 2-mile open and delivered him with a circuit to go to run out a convincing winner.

Fintown rider Tiernan Mc Gill hit the cross bar in the 14 hands race finishing second on his own pony Swilly Spirit and it shouldn’t be long till he is making the winners podium.

Other local rider Brody Ferry from Letterkenny was out of luck for the afternoon but like Tiernan it won’t be long before he is in the winner circle in the coming weeks.

Racing is back at Carndonagh venue in 2 weeks Sunday 25th May at 1.30pm
