Call for anti-skid surface to be replaced on Letterkenny hill

Donegal County Council has been asked to seek funding to replace a well-worn high-friction surface at Gortlee in Letterkenny.

The surface is almost completely worn away from the busy junction at Ballyraine.

In asking for a replacement, Councillor Donal Coyle highlighted the dangers of the steep hill to the Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District yesterday.

“We are all familiar with how dangerous it is,” Cllr Coyle said.

“I know it’s costly to replace, but the surface is all gone,” he said, stressing his fear that there could be a serious accident in the area.

Councillors were told that there is currently no funding available for the works. In light of the motion, Senior Executive Engineer David McIlwaine told the meeting that he has asked the Roads team to get a costing on the works for a funding application.
