Popular Glenties lady Gunborg Benvick has passed away at the age of 105.
Ms Benvick, a native of Finland, passed away peacefully on the 8th of May, just a few months shy of her 106th birthday in August.
For the past 15 years, Gunborg (Guaborg) had made her home in the tranquil Glenmacannive, surrounded by family.
Born in Jakobstad, Finland, in 1919, Gunborg lived a rich and eventful life. She spent two decades in South Africa, where she learned to speak English, before returning to her native country in the early 1980s.
For many years, Gunborg would make annual visits to her son and grandchildren in Glenties.
She made West Donegal her permanent home when she turned 90 years of age.
Gunborg is survived by her son Sune, granddaughter Louise (Anthony), grandson Sven (Dorota), great-grandchildren Patrick, Tony, Shaun, Karolina, Sara and Henrik, great-great-grandchildren Sophie and Sarah-Jayne and her carer Niamh.
She will be fondly remembered in the community as a beloved matriarch and a wonderful lady.
