Council seeks funding to buy old Milford Hotel

A Milford councillor says he hopes that the former Milford Hotel can be demolished as Donegal County Council moves forward with plans to buy the property.

An application has been submitted by the council to gain funding to acquire the site on main street.

The council engaged with the owner prior to making the application and if the funding application is successful, the sale must be completed by the middle of October 2025.

The update was shared with local Councillor Declan Meehan, who hopes that the building will be demolished under public safety concerns.

Fears have been raised about the deterioration of the vacant building, which is number one on the Milford Town Centre First Plan. The plan suggests that the site may be cleared to make way for a public space and the widening and improvement of the Main Street / Lough Road junction.

Last year Cllr Meehan urged the council to take decisive action on the hotel to address the potential risk that it poses to public safety. Two surveys have taken place at the property since then.
