Twelve winning artworks by Donegal students from recent Texaco Children’s Art Competitions have gone on exhibition at the Regional Cultural Centre in Letterkenny.
From last year’s 70th Texaco Children’s Art Competition, those whose works feature are Kerri Doherty (pictured above), from Abbey Vocational School, Donegal Town who won second prize in the 14-15 years age category for her work entitled ‘Granda’s Turn!’; Weronika Jarosinska, from Loreto Secondary School, Letterkenny who won second prize in the 16-18 years age category for her work entitled ‘Man to Machine’; and Charles (Dominic) Gallagher from St. Mary’s National School, Castlefinn who won second prize in the 6 years and under category for his work entitled ‘Moving Oceans’.

Both multiple winners, their previous winning artworks also on display are ‘In Memory of Granny’, for which Kerri won third prize in the in the 12-13 years age category in 2022 and ‘Moo Moo Rua’ which saw Charles (Dominic) win second prize in the 6 years and under category in 2023.
Another Donegal double winner whose two artworks feature in the exhibition is P.J. Doherty, previously from St. Eunan’s College, Letterkenny. His work entitled ‘Me And My Dad’ saw him become overall competition winner in 2021, and before that, he won first prize in the 14-15 years category in 2020, for his self-portrait.

Other Donegal winning artworks from previous years which feature are: ‘Rainbows and Sunshine’ by Neal (Bernard) Gallagher, then a pupil at CPI Creche, Lifford – which won third prize in the 6 years and younger category in 2023; ‘Covid Punch’ by Leanne McBrearty from Finn Valley College, Stranorlar – which won second prize in category G of the Competition in 2022; ‘Morning Squeeze’ by Matthew Clifford, then a pupil at Scoil Mhuire, Buncrana – which won third prize in the 16-18 years age category in 2021; and ‘Down the Road’ by Siobhán McBrearty, a former pupil at St. Columba’s College Stranorlar – which won third prize in the 16-18 years age category in 2012 and ‘Pulp Fiction’ by Caitríona McClay, a former pupil at Loreto Community School, Milford – which won second prize in the 16-18 years age category in 2014.

The exhibition, which features over 40 winning artworks from 16 counties, is open to the public from 11am – 5pm (Tuesday to Friday) and from 1pm – 5pm (Saturdays only) until Saturday, 7th June. Admission is free.
