Anger as vehicles parked on lifeboat slipway at Downings Pier

More concerns have been raised about poor parking on piers, potentially delaying the launch of a lifeboat.

Motorists are reminded to ‘think before you park’ after a number of vehicles were illegally parked on the slipway at Downings Pier at the weekend.

The two in the picture can clearly be seen parked inside the yellow box with empty jet ski trailers.

A social media post by an RNLI volunteer, reshared by Malin Head Coast Guard, stated: “If you park in the yellow box on Downings Pier you will delay the coastguard. Two of these vehicles had jet ski trailers. It could be you that is in trouble and needs our help. Please let this be the last time you do it.”

Back in 2021, the launch of a west Donegal lifeboat was delayed for ten minutes due to bad parking. That incident occurred at Bunbeg Pier.
