School secretaries and caretakers across Donegal are to come together next week to discuss possible strike action.
Fórsa members who are unable to join the public service pension scheme will meet on Thursday on the issue.
At last month’s Education Divisional Conference in Galway, the new Minister for Education Helen, McEntee, committed to doing everything she can to advance progress for school staff.
Johnny Thompson, who works at St Mary’s NS, Stranorlar, is training officer of Fórsa school caretakers’ branch.
Speaking at the conference, he said it was an injustice that school secretaries and caretakers are being left without pensions as well as access to bereavement and critical illness leave.
“Having engaged recently with school principals, there is a consensus in the school community that school caretakers and secretaries are the nuts and bolts of schools,” Mr Thompson said.
“We are calling on this conference today to support our call for a ballot on all-out, indefinite industrial action.”
In response, delegates supported the motion to ballot for industrial action.
Next Thursday, staff from across Donegal will get an opportunity to discuss the matter in Letterkenny.
School secretaries and caretakers working in the county are invited to come along to Fórsa’s information session in the Mount Errigal Hotel at 7.30pm.
