Disabled parking bay in Letterkenny moved for safer access

Donegal County Council has been praised for relocating a disabled parking bay in Letterkenny to a safer, more accessible location.

The parking bay on the Oliver Plunkett Road opposite the Central Library had been deemed “not fit for purpose” for years, as there was no dropped kerb adjoining it. This forced wheelchair users to go out onto the road to reach the pedestrian crossing point to the library.

After raising the issue with the Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District numerous times, Councillor Jimmy Kavanagh has welcomed the council’s action to address the once “difficult and dangerous” situation for wheelchair users.

Cllr Kavanagh said: “I raised the issue with the council, and I am grateful that they have rectified the problem. Small changes can make a big difference to those that need them.”
