Gardaí investigating after car demolishes wall of Inishowen estate

Gardaí have issued an information appeal in relation after a car crashed into a wall of the Grianan Park estate in Burnfoot.

The incident occurred sometime between 5pm on Friday the 16th of May and 10am on Saturday the 17th of May.

The vehicle destroyed the outer/boundary wall that separates the housing estate from the main Buncrana road.

“The damage was most likely caused by a collision and we are urging anybody who may have witnessed a road traffic collision at that location between those times to make contact with Gardaí,” said a garda spokesperson in a community appeal.

“If anybody can assist with relevant information, we ask them to contact Gardaí in Buncrana on 074-9320540.”

Following the incident, one resident, who did wish to be named, told Donegal Daily that they feared someone would be badly hurt or lose their life unless action is taken on the roads.

“This is not the first time this has happened. We have had issues over the years with cars speeding up the Main Street, performing doughnuts etc,” they said.

The sound of revving engines at 3am, they added, is commonplace.

“I am writing this to see if there is any way to bring some wider awareness to this issue in general, and more specifically, to see if anyone has information on the incident on Saturday night. It will eventually result in death – either of a driver, or some innocent victim in the wrong place at the wrong time.”
