A councillor has reminded members of the public the risk of gorse fires across Donegal is still ‘very high.’
Cllr Gary Doherty was speaking after attending a meeting of the Donegal County Council’s Emergency Response Committee this morning.
“Members of our Fire Service in the county reminded us of the ongoing threat of gorse/bush fires and how they can impact people and homes,” he said.
“There have unfortunately been some incidents where buildings have been lost due to these fires and other cases where there have been close misses.
“If you have any gorse or thick bush close to your property/oil tank etc. please consider cutting it back to prevent these fires from spreading. While the weather is now overcast today, the ground is very dry and the risk of fire is still very high.”
