Rosses AC athletes shine at WAAR and NW10k

On Sunday last the Strabane Lifford Half marathon took place with James McGeehan continuing his strong season breaking 90 mins to run 1:29:36. 

At the recent County Senior and Masters track and field championships in Lifford. The ladies were to the fore with Helen McCready taking gold in the 1500m and Claire O Donnell bronze. In the 800m Claire O Donnell secured gold with Ashleigh Sweeney taking bronze while in the 3k race Helen took gold and Bernie Boyle silver. Fodhla McFadden took gold in the Long Jump with a PB of 5.43m and gold in the triple jump. In the 4 x 100m relay a team consisting of Leah McGarvey, Aine Bonner, Ashleigh ni Suibhne and anchored by Helen McCready secured gold medals. 

Rosses AC ladies who completed WAAR – Sally Mulholland, Sarah Mulholland, Cathy Breslin, Eileen Harkin and Donna Boyle Gillespie.

At the  WAAR adventure race on the Full Course, Declan Ferry 2nd with 4th David McKelvey, 6th Charlie O Donnell, 7th Kenn Bates to round out the top ten. Our first female back in the full in 11th was Eileen Harkin with Cathy Breslin taking 15th. In the Sprint event, Manus McHugh took 3rd with 5th Noel Diver, 13th Gavin Ward and 50th Owenie Sharkey. For the ladies Donna Boyle Gillespie claimed runner up with 21st Sarah Mullholland, 25th Grace Garvie, 32nd Sally Mullholland, 51st Angela Trimble, 57th Marie Gallagher. In the teams event, Edward Harkin and Shane O Donnell took the win and Shauna McGinley was part of the 1st mixed team and 2nd overall.

Highlights from the Secondary Schools Districts saw Junior Boys: Evan Ward gold in High Jump (1.66m PB) and 800m,⁠Charlie Bonner silver in Long Jump, ⁠Eli Duffy gold javelin, ⁠Cianan Green gold shot putt. Intermediate Boys: Oisin Gillespie gold High Jump (PB 1.80m). Intermediate Girls: – Una Richardson gold Long Jump and 100m. At the North West 10k Declan Ferry who was home from Canada for a few days took 3rd in a great time of 32:35. Charlie Postie produced a fast time of 33:49 to take 6th and second M40  Shane O Donnell 8th in 34:09. Our talented female athletes saw Helen McCready fight for a podium finish in 3rd with 38:20, Bernie Boyle 5th and 1st F40 in 39:40 and Fionnuala Diver 7th 40:47.
