Greencastle company Seabound Engineering has won a National Enterprise Award for Best Export Business.

Seabound Engineering, supported by Local Enterprise Office Donegal, is Ireland’s only SCMS-certified aluminium shipyard, specialising in custom-built vessels for the aquaculture, inshore and offshore fishing, and marine sectors, including Ireland’s largest aluminium catamaran and its first amphibious vessel.

The company competed with Ireland’s best small businesses in the National Enterprise Awards on Thursday at the Mansion House in Dublin.

Seabound Engineering was awarded the Best-Established Enterprise Award at the Donegal Enterprise Awards back in December 2024. Donegal has triumphed at the National Enterprise Final for the past two years, with Neil Crossan of Living Green winning in 2024 and Patrick McLaughlin of Silver Strand Rope Works securing victory in 2023.

SPRYT, a Monaghan company that has created an AI patient care system that can eliminate inefficiencies in patient appointments took the top prize at this year’s National Enterprise Awards.

The National Enterprise Awards are one of a number of initiatives that the Local Enterprise Offices run to foster entrepreneurship across the country. Others include Local Enterprise Week, the Student Enterprise Programme, National Women’s Enterprise Day, and Local Enterprise Showcase. The Local Enterprise Offices in local authorities are funded by the Government of Ireland through Enterprise Ireland.

Established in 2014, the Local Enterprise Offices are the essential resource for any entrepreneur looking to start a business or any small business that is looking for support or advice to help them grow. Since their inception eleven years ago, the Local Enterprise Offices have helped create over 75,000 jobs across the country. The LEOs work with thousands of client companies across Ireland in a diverse range of sectors offering mentoring, training, expert advice, and financial supports to small businesses.
