The Relay for Life Donegal programme has been unveiled for this weekend, and there’s something for everyone.
Daniel and Majella O’Donnell and Moya Brennan are among the stars taking to the stage during the 24-hour event at the ATU campus in Letterkenny.
Relay for Life for the Irish Cancer Society is a unique 24-hour walking event where teams strive to have at least one team member walking around a track for the entire duration, symbolising the ongoing fight against cancer.
This year’s relay takes place on 24th & 25th May and the event is open to everyone – you don’t have to be part of a team to come along to enjoy the music, activities and be part of the movement against cancer.
There are many powerful moments to join. The event will kick off with the powerful Survivors’ Lap at 4pm, where all survivors will walk together in a sea of purple, setting the tone for the 24-hour relay. An annual highlight of the event is the Luminaria – light display – where attendees gather to remember every life that has been touched by cancer in one way or another.
Between the moments of hope and remembrance, the uplifting Relay For Life event also features entertainment and fun for all the family. See below for the full schedule.
When not walking, members of the teams, and their friends, families and colleagues are free to socialise, enjoy live entertainment and take part in activities arranged by their committee.
A remarkable €1,825,000 has been raised since the very first Donegal relay, and monies raised have made a huge impact in helping provide services for cancer patients and their families in Donegal. The Society’s Cancer Information Service, Night Nursing, Counselling & Development Programmes, Research, Transport Service, Travel2Care and Financial Support – all of these services have made a huge difference to the individuals in need of them and their families.
