Headed into the 2025 edition of Rás Tailteann, a Donegal rider had never even held the leaders’ yellow jersey in its 70-year history – now the county can claim two of the race’s three podium finishers.
Brilliant performances from Mountcharles’ Jamie Meehan and Gortahork’s Odhran Doogan saw the two young Donegal phenoms finish in second and third place in the general classification at the end of the Rás’ fifth and final stage today in Bective, County Meath.
Both were able to keep pace with the peloton and maintain their positions from yesterday during the final 142 kilometers of the race, as the Isle of Man’s George Kimber took the overall win.
Jamie Meehan also won the U23 classification, with Doogan following home in second in those standings.
He also finished second in the race’s Mountains points classification.
There was a double triumph for Odhran Doogan in both the County rider and Points classification, the Gortahork man taking home both of those titles in the race.
