RTÉ’s Crimecall programme last night broadcast CCTV footage of a brutal assault in Letterkenny and appealed to the public for help in identifying the suspect.

A bald man can be clearly seen talking to two other men on the town’s main street, but he later attacked them.

Garda Greg Freegrove told host Carla O’Brien he punched one of the victims a second time, leaving him with a badly broken nose and other injuries.

Gardaí want to identify the bald man in his 50s, seen above wearing a cream jacket and jeans, standing along Main Street in the town. A little later along the street, the suspect suddenly punches two men standing nearby, hitting them both in the face.

“He then hits one of the victims a second time, knocking him towards the ground. The suspect walks away, leaving one of the victims with a badly broken nose and other injuries,” Garda Freegrove said.

“He’s believed to be in his fifties with a broad build and on this night was wearing a cream overshirt, with t-shirt and jeans.”

Anyone with information is asked to call the national line on 1800-405060 or Gardaí in Letterkenny on 074-9167100.

From Northern Ireland, the number is 08000 393 393.
