Teachers, students and parents alike were jubilant as the official opening of a new classroom and playground at Castletown National School in St Johnston took place yesterday.
The much-needed new playground facilities were recently completed, in addition to the new classroom which was completed at the end of 2022.
Meanwhile the new playground features a fenced astro pitch, an astro area for playing, large tarred areas and a rubber matted area which Castletown NS plans to develop further in the near future.
The official opening was presided over by Principal Liesel Toner, with Reverend Craig Wilson opening proceedings.
There were also remarks from Chairperson of the Board of Management, Maurice Graham, and Chairperson of the Parent’s Association, Amanda Wilson – before some of the students were invited to speak.
Sixth class pupil Jamie Middleton, made a lovely speech about his time in Castletown NS and how delighted he was that he got to see the finished result, especially the new astro turf pitch with new goals so that they can play football on.
Senior room pupils, Matthew Middleton, Caleb Toner and Holly Wilson were then given the opportunity to read some fantastic poems they had writen about the new additions.
Then the oldest and youngest students at the schoolm Jamie Middleton and Lily-May Tinney, held the red ribbon for former Principal Mrs Winnie McCracken, who cut the ribbon to officially open the new classroom and playground.
