A man has admitted committing a serious assault on a woman at a Stranorlar hotel.

Denis McDermott appeared before Letterkenny Circuit Court over the incident at Kee’s Hotel, Main Street, Stranorlar, on October 23, 2018.

McDermott was in court to be arraigned before Judge John Aylmer.

The 41-year-old, of Newtown Place, Strabane, was charged with unlawfully assaulting Lisa Doherty and causing her harm.

McDermott spoke only to plead guilty when the charge was put to him.

His barrister, Mr Colm Smyth SC, said his client has pleaded guilty to a “much lesser charge”.

Mr Smyths, instructed by solicitor Mr Patsy Gallagher, said. Probation report and a psychiatric report would be beneficial in the case.

Judge Aylmer extended legal aid to cover the reports and asked that an assessment be made on McDermott’s suitability for community service.

The case was adjourned to October and McDermott was granted bail on the same terms and conditions.
