A group of highly talented students at Lurgybrack National School are set to tackle the charts by releasing a new song and music video!
The new song, Kaleidoscope, was written and created by members of the Lurgybrack NS songwriting club, with help from talented Donegal musician Brí Carr.
Sixth class student Matthew Finney helped Brí on the musical side, while the second-sixth class members of the club helped her write the lyrics.
The project was made possible thanks to funding from Creative Ireland, and the school’s 2025 Cruinniú na nÓg initiative – the national event which will take place next Saturday the 7th of June.
Kaleidoscope is set to drop just in time for the national event – with the song and music video to be released on Friday the 6th of June.
“The youth voice is paramount in this song, as every single child had input, to write a piece to show that ‘colour is the key’,” Brí Carr said announcing the launch of the song.
“Everyone is unique, their ‘colour’ beautiful, worthy and necessary, yet together, when the colours are mixed together, we get a kaleidoscope of rays representing the uniqueness of each child and the power of togetherness.”
“These children gave up lunchtimes and stayed after school on five afternoons to write and perfect their song. Everyone was delighted to work with Tommy Conway in Full Tilt Studios to record the audio. The video was filmed on location in Lurgybrack School, in Lurgybrack Open Farm, (we are truly blessed to have so much colour in our lives) and even at home and on holidays, so that all children involved could be included,” she said.
“Music was performed by myself on keyboards, Matthew Finney on guitar and Jack Wethers on banjo. Our CD and PR photo was produced by former pupil, Dean Murray, 2nd Year St Eunan’s College, and the video mixed and produced by myself, Brí Carr.”
The song has also been entered for consideration in the UK and Irish charts – a fine opportunity for the bright talents from Lurgybrack to shine even brighter on a national stage.
