Illies Golden Gloves boxer Cahir Gormley won his quarter-final bout in the 2025 National Elite Boxing Competition yesterday.

Gormley beat Darragh Gilroy from Fr Flanagan Boxing Club Kildare in the 70kg category, following an abandonment in round 1.

Gormley takes on Eugene McKeever (Holy Family Drogheda) later this evening.

Dungloe’s Matthew McCole will also be competing in the semi-finals, where he’s up against JoJo McArdle (Holy Trinity ABC).

This Elite Competition is taking place in consideration of selection for the World Boxing World Championships, taking September 4-14, 2025. IABA was approved as a member of World Boxing, the IOC-affiliated international governing body for amateur boxing, in May.

Tuesday’s action at the Girdwood Community Hub begins at 6pm.
