Donegal Library Service is hosting a full programme of fun events for children this summer.

As of 3rd June, the library will offer a diverse range of activities across all its branches, creating a fun and engaging environment.

Through a series of hands-on workshops, live story sessions, and interactive activities, the library aims to foster a lifelong love for books, learning, and libraries in children of all ages.

The programme promises a diverse range of activities that appeal to various interests. With activities like mini golf, Lego challenges, painting and craft classes, manga art, baby techno raves, puppetry, and friendship bracelet making, the Summer Stars Programme truly makes sure that there is something for everyone this summer.

Each participant will receive incentives along the way when they sign up for Summer Stars. To encourage reading goals, there will be prizes for those who sign up in their local branch. Also, this year, in partnership with Rannóg na Gaeilge of Donegal County Council, children who borrow Irish language books will be in with the chance of winning special prizes.

In our quest to Plant the Reading Seed, participants in the 2025 summer programme can also look forward to receiving a seeded bookmark allowing children across the county to experience the joy of watching their flowers bloom and grow.

Speaking at the launch of the festival, Mayor of the Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District Cllr Gerry McMonagle commented, “I am delighted to launch this fantastic programme. What sets Donegal County Library’s summer initiative apart is the volume and range of events across all the library branches. Looking at the line-up, I note that there are over a hundred events scheduled. Summer camps can be expensive for families, but in our libraries every single event is free, ensuring that every child across the county can participate. I want to wholeheartedly commend the Library Service and their commitment to accessibility and inclusivity.”

Visit your nearest Donegal County Library branch to register your children in the comprehensive schedule of events.

It is an opportunity for them to meet new friends, learn something new and be in with the chance to win prizes as they do so.
