A documentary about Ireland’s foremost traditional music band has been awarded the Torc in the Live Music Programme category at this year’s Celtic Media Festival in Newquay, Cornwall.
‘An Bothy Band’ saw suriviving members reuniting for a special documentary on TG4.
Matt Molloy, Dónal Lunny, Tríona Ní Dhomhnaill, Kevin Burke, Paddy Glackin and Paddy Keenan came together for a very special live performance.
Many of the members have close links to the Donegal Gaeltacht, with Paddy Glackin, Tríona Ní Dhomhnaill and Donal Lunny all having close connections to the Rosses through their parents.
The Bothy Band burst into life in late 1974 and although their star radiated for barely five years they released 4 albums to wide critical acclaim, gaining enormous popular status. With special interviews & behind the scenes rehearsals footage “An Bothy Band” looks into the band and their legacy.
