A record number of candidates are due to sit the State exams, which begin today.
There are 61,726 registered for the Leaving Certificate this year and an additional 4,517 registered for the Leaving Certificate Applied exams.
There are 74,313 Junior Cycle candidates sitting exams also.
For most Leaving Certificate students, the exams begin at 9:30am with English Paper 1. Students taking the LCA (Leaving Certificate Applied) and Junior Cycle programmes will also have their English papers at this time.
