Amnesty International Ireland Letterkenny group will hold a cultural event to celebrate Refugee Week on Thursday 12th June.
The event takes place from 6pm – 8pm in the Central Library, Letterkenny.
Through music, poetry and spoken word, the evening will showcase the contribution being made to our local community by people seeking refuge and asylum and to explore how we can, through simple acts, support people as they rebuild their lives.
The evening will finish with a performance from the New Land Choir followed by refreshments.
A spokesperson from Amnesty International Ireland Letterkenny said: “Refugee Week celebrates the strength and resilience of those forced to flee their homes in search of safety in other countries.
“Starting a new life from scratch in another country, with a different culture and language can be very difficult, away from all the familiarity of home. Yet people who come here as refugees and people seeking asylum bring with them their talents and skills and determination. They use these to contribute to the fabric of our communities and work in essential roles supporting our communities.”
