Dungloe’s Matthew McCole was celebrating last night after lifting the Irish Elite light-middleweight boxing crown.
The Illies Golden Gloves man finally overcame his old rival Eugene McKeever to lift the title in Belfast.
McKeveer has beaten the Donegal man in their previous four meetings but McCole was determined to put old ghosts to rest.
He eventually won the contest on a split decision but it always looked like McCole would take the bout.
The 26-year-old ATU student was delighted with his victory at the Girdwood Community Hub in Belfast.
He has been in particularly good form of late and the Irish Elite title is the icing on the cake for all his hard work.
Next up for the Donegal southpaw is the World Boxing World Championships in Liverpool in September.
