The public is invited to share their views on the Barnesmore Gap Greenway in phase three of the preferred route consultation.
Donegal County Council with the support of Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) and a technical engineering consulting team, ROD-AECOM, is progressing the development of the Barnesmore Gap Greenway project.
The project involves the proposed provision of a Greenway between the towns of Donegal Town and Ballybofey/Stranorlar in County Donegal.
The project is progressing in accordance with the TII Project Management Guidelines and is currently in Phase 3: Design and Environmental Evaluation. In November 2023, the third non-statutory public consultation was held, and the Emerging Preferred Route Corridor (EPRC) was presented following the completion of the Phase 2 Option Selection Process.
Through further options assessments, one-to-one landowner meetings and environmental surveys, the Preferred Route for the greenway has been identified.
The purpose of this public consultation is to inform the public of this Preferred Route and to invite feedback. Donegal County Council are now inviting the residents of the Donegal Town and Ballybofey/Stranorlar areas, members of the public and other interested parties to participate in a non-statutory public consultation on the Preferred Route from Friday 6th June 2025 to Friday 27th June 2025.
Your participation in this consultation is important and we would value any feedback which you think should be reviewed by the project team to help inform the development of the project.
To facilitate this, two in-person public consultation events will take place in Donegal Town and Ballybofey as follows:
Wednesday 11th June 2025: 12:00 – 20:00
The Abbey Hotel, The Diamond, Donegal Town, F94 AP8W
Thursday 12th June 2025: 12:00 – 20:00
Jackson’s Hotel, Glenfin St, Ballybofey, Donegal, F93 RD40
Members of the project team will be available to discuss any queries or concerns regarding the project.
For additional project information, or to complete the feedback form online, please visit the dedicated project website at https://scanner.topsec.com/?d=
If you cannot attend one of our in-person events and are unable to access the website, please feel free to contact the project team by phone on 074 97 24500 (09:00 to 16:00 Monday – Friday), by email on design@dnrdo.ie or by post at National Roads Office, Drumlonagher, Donegal Town, Co. Donegal.
A council spokesperson said: “We would welcome the opportunity to engage with you to ensure that your interests and concerns are addressed during the consultation and design development process. “
