One of Donegal’s leading business figures, Cormac Meehan, is set to retire after 38 years
Meehan, who is owner of Meehan Travel Worldchoice and Sean Meehan Chartered Valuation Surveyors, Bundoran, has announced that he will retire at the end of August this year.
Co-inciding with his retirement, both businesses will close in August after 75 years of successful operation within the Meehan family.
His father Sean started the family business in 1959, with Cormac taking over the operation after his father’s passing in 1987.
Cormac has operated the business since then, culminating in 38 years in charge of the family trade.
During his tenure Cormac held the Presidency of the Irish Travel Agents Association and the Irish Auctioneers and Valuers Institute.
After his retirement, Cormac will continue to act as a National Property Arbitrator for the Land Values Reference Committee of the High Court.
Making the announcement of his retirement, Cormac paid tribute to his front line team of Kathleen McDaid, Fiona Feely and Caroline McNamara who with their predecessors have been vital to the success of the businesses over the years.
He also made particular mention of the customers who supported both businesses over the decades.
“We have always enjoyed a very special relationship with our customers, our suppliers and, indeed, our statutory regulators such as the Irish Aviation Authority and the Property Services Regulatory Authority.”
“Travel bookings with existing customers will continue without interruption and future bookings will be referred to our travel agency colleagues, Mullaney Travel Worldchoice in Sligo and Atlantic Travel Worldchoice in Letterkenny,” said Cormac.”
Finally, Cormac thanked his wife Maureen for her support over the years.
“She is a powerhouse of support and has enjoyed sharing this adventure with me. We are both looking forward to the next chapter of our lives.”
