Premier Division
Illistrin As 0-1 Finn Valley Gaels
Illistrin welcomed Finn Valley to Corry Park for the 2nd game of the Premier Division. After a tense opening 10 minutes Illistrin began to get on top. The 1st chance fell to Niamh Woods who fired wide of the mark. Ava Rice, Eve McElwaine and Alanna Bradley all tested the Finn Valley keeper but she was equal to their efforts as Illistrin began to turn the screw to find the 1st goal. Eve McElwaine fired over the bar from 10 yards in the last chance of the 1st half. The 2nd half began in the same manner as the first half. The 1st chance fell to Finn Valley who made Illistrin pay for their missed opportunities in the 1st half. A ball in behind wasn’t dealt with and it fell kindly for Saoirse McMenamin to pounce, although keeper Enya Mulkearns got a hand, she just couldn’t keep it out. This forced Illistrin into action by taking the game to Finn Valley but unable to break down a stubborn defence. Thanks to Mick Lagan for reffing a very competitive game
Keadue Rovers 2-0 Drumbar United
Keadue welcomed Drumbar to Central Park in the second round of games in the Premier Division. Played in wintery conditions at times, credit goes to both sets of players for trying to play high-quality football throughout the match in the tough conditions. The 1st 15mins of the game was evenly matched, Keadue creating the best opportunity when on 12mins Katie Gillespie drove a cross in on goal, and Fia Ham just couldn’t reach the ball. With the aid of the strong breeze, Drumbar picked up the pace for the last 15mins of the half and kept pressing hard for a shot on goal. With a flurry of corners and attempts on goal, the Keadue defence had to hold strong. Drumbar nearly scored on the stroke of half time, when a brilliant strike was superbly pushed round the post by Keadue keeper Robyn Duffy. With the aid of the breeze at their back for the 2nd half, Keadue put the pressure back on to Drumbar. On 12mins, Tilda McGarvey burst into life and played a ball to Fia Ham, who made no mistake this time in front of goal. 5mins later, the same duo combined again, and Fia secured her 2nd goal of the match. Drumbar never gave up, they kept fighting and were very unlucky not to get something from this game. Thanks to Drumbar for making it a very competitive game, and we wish you well for the rest of the season. Thanks to Seamus Ferry for reffing the match.

Gweedore United left Ballybofey with all 3 points in blustery conditions at the Finn Valley centre. The visitors got off to the perfect start when Lily Gallagher seized on a short kick out to finish well. Finn Valley fought their way into the game and the remainder of the half was an even contest with both sides defending well. Gweedore captain Annie Ivers grabbed a second on the stroke of Half Time using her strength to break clear and find the bottom corner. A well worked corner saw Lily Gallagher find space and put the visitors further in front in the 33rd minute. The hosts stuck at their task however and a well hit Sorcha Flanagan drive following a corner almost put them back in the game. Zoe Floyd linked up well with Amelia Farrell only to see her shot just go wide. At the other end Brooke Devenney-Darby did well to tip over a well struck Lily Gallagher shot. Annie Ivers got her second of the night when she burst through midfield to finish well from close range. A terrific Finn Valley break almost saw them grab a consolation when Muireann Doohan turned away a Zoe Floyd shot and Ruby McMenamin was unlucky to see her shot hit the post from the rebound.
Donegal Town 2-0 Letterbarrow Youths
Illistrin Bs 1-3 Gweedore Celtic
Illistrin and Gweedore played out a classic at Corry Park. Gweedore began on top but with Illistrin defending well and Keeper Aoibhe McLaughlin in fine form they couldnt find the break through. Illistrin were looking dangerous on the break with Mia Geraghty and Katie Carr. Gweedore to the lead when a ball into the box was diverted into the net by an Illistrin player. This spurned Illistrin in life and they equalized when Katie Carr found Mia Geraghty who broke the offside trap to fire into the bottom corner. 1-1 at the break. The 2nd half began the same as the 1st with both teams battling but Illistrin looking sharp on the break. Gweedore were pushing to get in front but McLaughlin in goal was equal to all of the efforts.
