Two Donegal priests have celebrated their golden jubilee on the same weekend.
Fr Francis McLoone of the Killymard parish near Donegal Town, and Fr Kieran McAteer of Ballybofey, both marked their 50th year in the priesthood with special events in their respective parishes.
Fr McLoone has been the parish priest of Killymard for the last two decades, having prior been an administrator within St Eunan’s Cathedral in Letterkenny before that.
Fr McAteer also has deep ties to St Eunan’s, having also been an administrator there in the past, as well as a curate before that.
He also was a missionary in Peru for a number of years as part of his priesthood.
The parish of Killymard came out in force to celebrate Fr McLoone’s golden jubilee on Friday evening, with a special mass being followed by refreshments at the St John Bosco Centre.
Meanwhile Fr McAteer celebrated his 50th anniversary in the priesthood with a special mass held earlier this evening in Stranorlar, before a gathering in the Villa Rose Hotel to celebrate his achievements.
