An uninsured driver was more than four times the legal drink-drive limit when he was involved in a crash in Ballyshannon.
Zanas Dziugas was before Ballyshannon District Court in relation to an offence on September 25, 2019.
Inspector Michael Doherty told the court that Gardai responded to a road traffic collision.
There, they encountered Dziugas, who was taken to Ballyshannon Garda Station.
A subsequent test showed a concentration of 222mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood, where the legal limit is 50mg/100ml.
The court heard that a lawful demand was made for Dziugas to produce insurance, but he did not comply.
Mr Frank Murphy, solicitor for Dziugas, said his client has been severely addicted to alcohol. He said Dziugas now works part-time as a kitchen porter and has “somewhat turned the corner”.
He said Dziugas has “bounced around the country” but is “steadfast in Ballyshannon now”.
Judge Ciaran Liddy disqualified Dziugas from driving for a period of three years and fined him €150 for drink-driving. On a no insurance charge, Dziugas was banned from driving for a two-year period and also fined €150.
Other charges were marked as taken into consideration.
