Finn Valley College’s TY Prizegiving for the class of 24/25 was more than just a celebration of a busy year – it was proof that these students are ready for the new Senior Cycle. Through every project and every challenge, they’ve grown into confident, capable young people, well prepared for their future education.
This year’s TYs didn’t just take part – they took charge! They judged poetry competitions, painted stage sets, created books, set up innovative businesses and even dressed shop windows!
They brought justice to life in a mock Supreme Court and creativity to the screen in the Rubbish Film Festival – earning runner-up in the process. They navigated escape rooms and outdoor activities, facing every task with good humour.
The students mastered real-world skills from First Aid to tax, sea safety to sustainable living. They engaged with serious topics, such as consent and emotional wellbeing, through the Red Flags Workshop and demonstrated compassion through Young SVP and the Concern Bazaar.
Their impact reached beyond the school gates. They organised primary school sports days, worked with the Frances Browne Literary Festival, connected with Community Gardaí, and supported the Rotary’s Polio Eradication Campaign.
Through Seachtain na Gaeilge, they promoted the Irish language and culture. Through student-led poetry and awareness events, they made sure every voice was heard. Their list of achievements – from entrepreneurship to climate science – is long, but what stands out most is how they’ve grown along the way.
One of the clearest signs of their readiness for Senior Cycle lies in their digital portfolios. These demonstrate forward thinking, digital skills, independence, and reflection.

Guest speaker Mr Kieran Kelly, an All-Ireland playwright, author and teacher, reminded them that life rarely follows a script – and that courage, creativity, resilience, and being willing to start again are what make the best stories. His messages of “don’t give up” and “just be you” resonated with everyone at the ceremony.
Students Ellie Mae Mc Gavigan and Anderson Erroa Garcia, sang beautifully their self-composed ‘Our Donegal’ with Miss Bogle. TY Coordinator Ms Garry and SNA Sharon Scanlon gave accounts of their journey with a fantastic group of young adults, wishing them every success in the next chapter.
Principal Mr Mc Fadden reminded the TY Class of 24/25 that they are “capable, resilient, and kind. Carry that with you. You’ve left your mark on our school, and we are better for it.”
