Strong performances for Rosses AC at Ulster Juvenile Championships

The NI & Ulster U14-U20 Age Group Championships at the Antrim Forum in Belfast showcased a series of impressive performances across both track and field disciplines for Rosses AC athletes at the weekend.

In the track events, Ayva Boyle placed 3rd in her heat of the 75m Hurdles (U14G), while Niamh Doogan demonstrated consistency by securing 3rd place in both the 80m and 250m Hurdles Finals (U16G). Lucas Parker finished 4th in his 200m heat, and the Rosses team achieved 5th place in the 4x100m Relay (U14G). In the 800m events, Shauna McGovern and Molly Sharkey placed 5th and 4th respectively in their U14G heats, Aileen Logue came 5th in the U15G heat, and Evan Ward delivered a standout performance, winning the U15B race with a time of 2:10.

Field events also saw strong results: Una Richardson earned 2nd place in the Long Jump (U18G), while Aaliyah Gallagher Canavan placed 4th in Long Jump (U14G), and secured 1st place finishes in both High Jump (1.50m) and Shot Put (10.62m). Odhran Lynch placed 5th in Long Jump (U16B), Oisin Gillespie won the Long Jump (U17B) with a distance of 5.71m, and Eli Duffy claimed 1st place in the Javelin (U15 Boys) with a throw of 35.08m.

The Annual interfirms race in Letterkenny saw Paul McKelvey first Rosses man home in 17:33. Declan Gallagher clocked 18:19 and a super run from Colin Mooney saw him run a fast 19:06 on his Rosses debut. A super performance from Rosses Helen McCready saw her take 3rd in a brilliant time of 17:41, followed by Maria ni Mhaolagain in 17:58. Claire O Donnell went sub 19 to run a super 18:55 to take the F40 category win and Emily Bonner 21:48.

At the LK Gaels 5k saw David McKelvey run strongly to take 2nd in 16:41. Graeme Edward’s 17:29 to take 4th, Michael Logue won the M50 category in 19:21. Norman McClean 19:42 and Denis Boner 21:28. After racing the previous night Bernie Boyle ran a super time of 18:41, with Ashleigh Ni Suibhne getting a PB of 19:49 for a brilliant 3rd. Rachel Gallagher 22:58 and Angela Trimble 28:59.
