A huge crowd is expected in Raphoe next weekend for a Mass of Thanksgiving to mark the occasion of the Diamond Jubilee of the Ordination of Canon Denis McGettigan.
The event will take place next Friday evening, June 20, in St Eunan’s Church. Following the Mass, everyone is invited to the nearby Deele College for refreshments.
Affectionately known as ‘Fr Dinny’, he was born in Kilmacrennan in 1939 and received his primary education in the local national school, before going to St Eunan’s College in Letterkenny.
In 1958, he went to St. Patrick’s College, Maynooth, to begin his training for the priesthood before he was ordained on June 20, 1965.
He finally retired in 2018 and is pictured at an event to mark the occasion in Deele College, where he will return next Friday night.
