Fianna Fáil councillor Michael Naughton has been elected as the new Chairperson of the Donegal Municipal District for the 2025-26 year.
This is Cllr Naughton’s second time to hold the role of Cathaoirleach.
He replaces Sinn Fein Cllr Noel Jordan.
In accepting the position, Cllr Naughton said he was “deeply honoured and privileged”.
“I would like to thank all the people that got me to this day, especially my Mum, Dad, sister Sheila and brother Peter, who have gone to their eternal rest but looking down with pride today,” he said in a social media post.
Cllr Naughton said it was a “special day” for him personally, and for his wife, Annette, and their children, Erin and Cian.
“I look forward to working for all the people in this MD from Bundoran to Glencolmcille, and be assured of my support and commitment to this area as always,” he added.
Independent Councillor Jimmy Brogan was elected as the Leas-Cathaoirleach of the municipal district at today’s AGM, taking over from Cllr Michéal Naughton, who held the position last year.
