Letterkenny man Cathal Herron has set the bar VERY high when it comes to gifts, after surprising his wife with her dream car for their 40th wedding anniversary!
Bernie Herron has always adored the Citroën 2CV. The legendary motor ended production in 1990 but remains a stylish icon.
With their Ruby anniversary coming up this August, Bernie’s husband Cathal pulled out all the stops to find her the perfect gift. Two months ago, he secured a stunning 1978 edition of the classic car.
And if that wasn’t romantic enough, he surprised her with it on her birthday!
Bernie was treated to tickets to see Pitbull in Dublin two weeks. The next day, her family planned a birthday dinner at the Oasis.
There, in the Letterkenny Shopping Centre car park, was the Citroën 2CV.
Bernie made a beeline for the car for a photo, not noticing that it had her name on it!
Her daughter Niamhín caught the lovely moments on camera.

Niamhín said: “Walking past, she spotted the car straight away and said, ‘Aw look, there’s my wee dream car,’ and asked us to take a photo of her with it. Then, when we were taking the photos, Dad gave her the papers and keys. She was so shocked.”
Niamhín’s uplifting video has gone viral on TikTok, with 1.4 million views so far. Viewers have loved the pure positivity of the video and Bernie’s delighted reaction.
Complete with a cute convertible roof, Bernie now has the whole summer ahead to drive around in style!
