Donegal County Council will join local authorities across Ireland on Friday, 27 June to mark Your Council Day.
The event is part of a national campaign promoting the vital work of city and county councils and the people behind the services that support our communities every day.
Coordinated by the Local Government Management Agency (LGMA) and supported by all 31 local authorities, Your Council Day is an opportunity to showcase the wide range of services councils provide – from community spaces and planning to local democracy and economic development.
This year’s theme, Building Stronger Communities, highlights how local authorities foster environments where people feel connected, supported, and empowered to thrive.
Donegal County Council’s Corporate Plan 2024-2029 strongly supports this year’s theme with “Empowering and Supporting Communities” one of the Council’s main Strategic Goals.
As part of the day, the council will be highlighting the vital work that staff perform every day to support our communities and make a difference to people’s lives. This was recently highlighted with Donegal County Council winning the prestigious Local Authority of the Year Award at the 2024 Chambers Ireland’s Excellence in Local Government Awards and repeating the feat in 2025 in winning the Local Authority Members Association’s (LAMA) Council of the Year (main pic).

Street cleaning, road maintenance, housing, urban planning, dog wardens, management of parks, fire services, arts and heritage, tourism, and community events — these are just a small snapshot of the wide-ranging work carried out by our local authorities every day.
“These services are made possible by the dedication and hard work of our local authority teams. ‘Your Council Day’ is a chance to shine a light on their contributions, celebrate their impact, and raise awareness of the essential role local councils play in supporting and strengthening our communities.
