A person had to be airlifted to hospital after falling from a cliff in Bundoran early this morning.

The alarm was raised shortly after 7am when members of the public heard calls for help.

A multi-agency response was launched, with members of the Bundoran RNLI, Donegal Fire Service, the National Ambulance Service and the Rescue 118 helicopter all tasked to the scene by the Malin Head Coast Guard Centre.

The injured casualty had landed on rocks at the base of the cliff, according to the RNLI.

Volunteers from the Bundoran RNLI rushed to the scene, and assisted in stabilising the casualty and moving them to the beach where the Rescue 118 helicopter had landed.

The casualty was then rushed by air to Sligo University Hospital for treatment.

In a statement, the Bundoran RNLI Lifeboat Operations Manager, Daimon Fergus, said:

“We are grateful to the member of the public who raised the alarm this morning. This was a challenging situation, and thanks to the swift response and teamwork between all agencies, the casualty was reached quickly and is now receiving the medical care they need. We wish them a full recovery.”

“The RNLI reminds anyone visiting the coast to stay well back from cliff edges, take extreme care near the water, and in an emergency, dial 999 or 112 and ask for the Coast Guard.”
