Callum Devine is still at the head of the pack at the halfway point of Saturday’s Donegal International Rally running.
However, his lead has been cut into by the chasing pack, and especially by County Down driver William Creighton in a Toyota Yaris R2.
Former Junior WRC Champion Creighton has been flying, taking two stage wins in the day’s first four stages, and clawing back another half-second on Stage 10 – the final stage before the lunch break.
Devine’s lead is now down to 8.5s at the head of the field, and he still has European Champion Hayden Paddon to contend with also.
Paddon was fastest on Stage 10 by 2 seconds, and has climbed back into third spot just 16.2 seconds from the rally lead.
Fourth-placed Meirion Evans is still well in the fight too, the Welshman now sitting 17s from Devine.
Josh Moffett is in fifth, but is now 46 seconds back from the leader.
The biggest story of the day’s first loop however came in the form of further troubles for Fermanagh’s Jon Armstrong.
After losing 30s with differential problems on day one, a win on the first stage of Saturday at High Glen and another strong run on Stage 8 had him primed to chase down Devine at the head of the rally.
However mechanical troubles again struck Armstrong’s Ford Fiesta R2 on Stage 9, and he is now more than a minute from the lead with plenty of work to do back at the service park in Letterkenny.
Action will resume with the legendary Knockalla stage beginning at 2:30pm this afternoon.
Here is the schedule for the rest of today’s running:
Saturday:
Knockalla (SS11): 2:30pm
Garrygort (SS12): 3:15pm
Knockalla 2 (SS13): 5:22pm
