Donegal mountain rescue volunteers are reminding hillwalkers to plan their routes before any summer adventures.
Walkers are advised to carry appropriate navigation equipment, inform others of their planned route, and consider current conditions before heading out.
The advice comes after a rescue in the Ballyliffin area last month, where two walkers became trapped in a gorge.
The Donegal Mountain Rescue Team was tasked by Gardaí to help locate two missing walkers on the 28th of May.
“The individuals had become disoriented during their walk and were trapped in a gorse-covered gorge, unable to safely extract themselves,” a DMRT spokesperson said.
“The call came as darkness fell, and local Gardaí maintained communication with the casualties while coordinating the response.
“A DMRT hasty team was deployed and successfully located and extracted both individuals in darkness. They were subsequently transported to medical facilities in Buncrana for assessment, accompanied by An Garda Síochána.”
