Met Éireann invites public to name this winter’s storms

Met Éireann is inviting people across Ireland to submit their most creative ideas for storm names for the upcoming 2025/26 winter season.

From Ophelia to Éowyn, the naming of storms helps communities to be more aware of severe weather events and plan ahead for safety.

Since 2015, Met Éireann and the UK Met Office have been working together on the naming programme and were joined by the Netherland’s KNMI in 2019. Each country now contributes each season.

When submitting your suggested name, you must tell the story of why your proposed name should be on the list.

It’s important to note some key rules for submissions: names beginning with Q, U, X, Y, and Z are not permitted. All the details and the submission form can be found via the link below, with a strict deadline of Tuesday, 1st July 2025.

Only names submitted through this form will be considered: http://forms.office.com/e/K2ACQszv0A
