Donegal athlete Mark McGinley has won the 2025 Sheephaven 70.3 Triathlon.

The Glenswilly man was in flying form over the course of the demanding course.

The top three on the podum were McGinley, Donal Sheehy (AMS) and Conor Maguire (OmaghTC).

The top three females were Helen Perry (LisburnTC), Fiona Murphy (TunaTC) and Rebecca Carr (LisburnTC).

Letterkenny 24/7 Triathlon club hosted the annual 70.3 Triathlon on Saturday last, a 70.3 mile race consisting of a swim, bike and finishing off with a run.

Mark came out of the swim in 5th place just 30 seconds down off the first competitor. He had a very fast first transition and was out on the bike within a minute and 30 seconds.

Mark made his way to the front of the race within the first 15km and grew his lead as he progressed through the hills along the coast of the wild Atlantic way.

He held a respectable speed over the 90km bike, on what was a very breezy day and over tough terrain.

Mark came off the bike with over a five minute lead over second place before running a 1 hour 24 half marathon to take the win.

Mark also qualified for the half Ironman world championships in May of this year, which will be held in Marbella, Spain in November 2025.
