Last weekend was a successful one for Rosses AC athletes during Day 2 and Day 3 of the Juvenile All Ireland Championships for the u14 to u19 age groups.
The club had a great weekend with five national medals coming down the road and three of these in high jump. First up was Evan Ward in the u15 Boys High Jump where he jumped a new personal best of 1.69m to claim 2nd place and an All Ireland Silver Medal. Evan also competed in the 800m and ran a brilliant race to go with the pace and was in the mix for medals with 150m to go and ended up 5th and secured a new PB time of 2:08.

Next was Caoimhe McGonagle and Aileen Logue in the U15 girls high jump where Aileen jumped 1:45m to secure 8th place while Caoimhe had a great day as she secured a silver medal with a great jump of 1:58m. It is a great reward for Caoimhe who has spent much of the season playing county Gaelic football with Donegal.

And the last high jump medal went to Rosie Breslin in the u13 girls high jump along with club mate Katelyn O Donnell. Both girls jumped really well as expected with Katelyn jumping 1.30m to claim a top 8 finish while Rosie saw her great season continue as she jumped a 6cm pb of 1.41m to secure a bronze medal.
Aaliyah Gallagher Canavan is a very talented athlete and competed in the Shot Putt where she finished a really strong 4th place just missing the podium while she also finished 7th in the High Jump and was disappointed as she knows she can jump much better.

Next to get on the Podium was the ever reliable Eli Duffy who again secured an All Ireland Silver Medal in the u15 Boys Javelin. Another super silver medal for the talented Eli who again came to the fore on the big day as he was very close to a Gold medal but had to settle for silver today in the boys u15 Javelin. Eli has spent many months working on his strength and technique and continues to improve.
The last medal of the weekend went to Cianan Greene who secured a bronze medal and podium position as he threw a new personal best of 12.21m in the under 14 boys shot putt. Cianan started shot put last year after being spotted at the primary school sports in Carrickfinn. His journey and getting to a level of medaling is truly remarkable which came about through good coaching at the club and in his school ( RCS ) and hard work by himself.

In the u13 girls Long Jump Caitlin Sweeney and Eveney Green pushed on from their Ulster performance’s to compete with the best jumpers in Ireland and came away with strong top 12 finishes while in the u13 girls javelin Robyn Duffy and Katelynn o Donnell qualified for the all Irelands after their excellent results at the Ulster’s. On the day they both threw very well but not their best but will learn from the experience with both getting top 12 finishes also. A huge well done to all the athletes who competed and represented the club so well and a special mention to the coaches and all the hard work they have put in as well as the parents who travelled and who ensure the athletes have all needed to compete.
Locally at the Glenveagh 5k, it was a double double as Shane O Donnell won the men’s with Charlie O’Donnell 2nd while in the ladies Helen McCready took the win with Bernie Boyle 2nd. There were great numbers from the club that supported this event. At the Illistrin 5k Patrick Trimble took 3rd place. At the Clonee 10k Noel O Donnell ran 41:21 while at the Vancouver half Marathon Declan Ferry finished 8th place in 1:10:51.
