There’s not many who can say they have been a Finn Harps fan since the very day they were founded in Ballybofey in 1954.
But well-known Twin Towns man Benny Gordon can.
Benny celebrates his 100th birthday today in the company of his family at his home on the Donegal Road.
An out-and-out gentleman, Benny will be known to many having worn a number of hats in his various careers down through the years with Donegal County Council, the HSE and also at the Ballybofey cinema.
A staunch supporter of the Finn Park club, the club today sent Benny a very special birthday wish saying “Everyone at Finn Park would like to wish our amazing supporter and former volunteer Benny Gordon a very happy 100th birthday.”
Although Benny no longer gets to home games, the family connection is still strong as Benny’s daughter Margaret and grandson Callum both have roles within the club.
Predeceased by his wife Mary (nee Quinn), Benny still follows the club closely and listens for the results of their games.
Finn Harps say they look forward to welcoming the Gordon family to Finn Park on the 25th July when they will be sponsoring match against Cobh in honour of Benny.
Many happy returns to a great man.
