The stunning Árainn Mhór – Ailt an Chorráin Blueway will see its new promotional videos officially launched at an event this Friday morning, 6th June 2025, at 11am.
Donegal Tourism Ambassador, Noel Cunningham, will be unveiling the videos at An Chúltúrlann on Arranmore Island, where all are welcome.
Noel will also unveil the official blueway logo at Leabgarrow Foreshore. The logo, a cormorant, is a symbol of connection between land, sea, and people.
This initiative aims to showcase the beauty and recreational opportunities of Ireland’s first and only coastal Blueway to incorporate the sea.
Connecting the mainland village of Burtonport (Ailt an Chorráin) to Arranmore Island (Árainn Mhór), the Blueway offers a blend of land and water-based recreational experiences such as walking, cycling, kayaking, sailing, and snorkelling, while immersing visitors in the stunning Donegal landscape.

The Blueway’s land-based trails offer varied options for walkers and cyclists on both Arranmore and the mainland:
- Slí Árainn Mhór: A 14km loop around Arranmore Island, offering breathtaking views and a moderate walking experience.
- The Old Railway Walk: A scenic trail following the former railway route between Burtonport and Letterkenny, featuring remnants of the old railway infrastructure.
- Kinballycrowie Loop: A looped walk from Burtonport harbour along the old railway corridor, passing through quiet country lanes and woodlands.
- Crickamore Loop: A shorter looped walk along a scenic stretch of the old railway corridor, returning via quiet country lanes.
Water-Based Activities – Arranmore
Visitors can engage in various water-based activities, including kayaking, sailing, and snorkelling. Local operators offer equipment rentals and guided tours to enhance the experience. The first accredited snorkel trails in Ireland, in particular, have been highlighted for their clarity and marine life, providing a unique underwater adventure.

Getting There
Arranmore Island is accessible year-round by ferry from Burtonport. The journey offers scenic views of the Atlantic and the surrounding islands. The ferry services are operated by Arranmore Ferry and The Arranmore Ferry, which is introducing a new vessel, the Arranmore Blu, in 2025 to enhance passenger comfort and capacity.
