Play-off heartbreak for Donegal golfer in prestigious Munster U14 Amateur Open

A talented young Donegal golfer suffered a play-off heartbreak after he was pipped for the title at the prestigious Munster U14 Boys Amateur Open Championship yesterday.

Charlie O’Hora (14), from Ballybofey, was locked in joint first place on 73 points with Ruben Rivas McHugh (Tralee) following the final hole at Cahir Park Golf Club, Tipperary. However, McHugh took the title after a sudden death play-off against brave Charlie with a birdie on 19th. But, it certainly won’t be the last we’ll hear of Charlie, who plays with Ballybofey & Stranorlar Golf Club.

Back in April, he won the prestigious U14 Flogas Irish Junior Open Tour at the Lough Erne Resort, Fermanagh. And, in a few week’s time, hopes to take part in the Interprovincials.

A student at St Columba’s College, Stranorlar, he no doubt inherited his golfing skills from his proud parents, Joe and Brenda, of Benny & Co fame.
