The Inishowen Palestine Solidarity Group yesterday staged a vigil on Cockhill Bridge in Buncrana as a show of solidarity with the people of Palestine.
There was an international representation at the gathering, with people from Spain, England, Germany, the Netherlands and Palestine itself joining with campaigners from Inishowen and Derry.
Demonstrators raised the flag of Palestine and knotted keffiyehs together – a scarf synonymous with the Palestinian struggle.

Up to 2 million people of Gaza face extreme risk of starvation while living in inhumane, crowded conditions, without access to clean water or sanitation, heightening the risk of disease. Nearly 2 million people have been displaced.
The Inishowen Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) said their demonstration is one of many nationwide that aims to highlight the worsening humanitarian situation and violence.
“All over the world, increasing numbers of ordinary people are standing up, speaking out, taking part in peaceful marches, rallies and vigils and demanding that their governments take urgent and effective action to stop the escalating genocide in Gaza perpetrated by the IDF,” said a spokesperson for the IPSC.
“This is the last week before the Dail goes on summer recess, and there is increasing pressure from civil society this week, who are crying out to demand more action is taken by our government, and that it ends its complicity in Israeli war crimes.”

Their campaign demands that Ireland takes sanctions on Israel, that the Irish government takes urgent action by passing the Occupied Territories Bill in full before summer recess on Friday, stops the facilitating of trading in Israeli War Bonds by the Central Bank, stops US warplanes using Shannon Airport, and pressures the EU to stop trading with Israel.
