Letterkenny-based priest Father Damien Nejad has announced he will be leaving the Parish of Conwal & Leck to move to Newtowncunningham & Killea.

Fr Nejad’s appointment is one of a number of clerical changes expected to be announced by the Diocese of Raphoe today.

Fr Nejad, who has served in Letterkenny for the past 7 years, will become the new curate of St. Baithin’s Church in St Johnston.

He announced his news to the congregation in St Eunan’s Cathedral yesterday and said: “It’s been a very special experience, but like all things in life my time has come. We will see what the parishes of Newtowncunningham, Killea and St Johnston will bring.

“It’s been lovely getting to know so many of you.”

“This is a very special parish. It’s spiritually strong and I hope that it remains this way,” he said of Conwal and Leck.

Fr Nejad, a Hiberno-Iranian priest with family links to Annagry, was ordained in 2016 and began his ministry at The Cathedral of Saints Patrick and Colman, Newry before coming to Letterkenny as a curate in 2018.

The upcoming clerical changes are expected to take effect next month.
