A learner driver was stopped after being caught doing 122kph in the Carndonagh area last night.

Gardaí from Buncrana Roads Policing Unit stopped the car.

The driver of the car had a learner permit, were unaccompanied and had no ‘L plates’ displayed.

The car was seized and a number of Fixed Charge Penalty Notices will now be issued.

A Garda spokesperson said “We wish to remind all Learner Permit drivers that under the ‘Clancy Amendment’ they must be accompanied by a qualified driver.

“A learner permit holder is disqualified from driving for 6 months upon accumulating 7 penalty points within any three-year period. This 7-point threshold also applies to drivers during the first two years after obtaining their first full driving licence.

“We ask all drivers to keep an eye on their speed at all times and to slow down.”
